Significant order for MHI from Klabin

As reported in July 2022, Brazil-based Klabin confirmed it is making an investment of R$1.6 bn (approximately $287m) for the construction of a new corrugated board plant in Piracicaba (São Paulo). The plant is being built on a plot of 950,000 sqm, allowing for future expansion. With the startup of the factory and other expansion projects already announced by the company, Klabin will have an installed capacity of approximately 1.3m tons of corrugated board per year, further consolidating its leading position in the Brazilian market.

The new factory is scheduled to start operating in the final quarter of 2023 and into the first quarter of 2024 and will have an annual production capacity of 240,000 tons of corrugated board.

As confirmed in the original announcement, the company will be installing multiple corrugators and converting lines.  Included in this order is five machines from MHI. These lines include:

  • Three EVOL 100 with Dual Slotter and MPF M pre-feeders;
  • Two EVOL 115 with Dual Slotter and MPF W pre-feeders.

“This is a significant order, one which we are rightly proud of,” confirms Giovanni Bettini, Head of Sales, MHI EMEA and South America. “It is an honour for us that Klabin has chosen these market-leading casemakers for this new flag ship facility, which will open in late 2023. We will be delivering two of the lines ready for the opening of the facility, with the remaining three machines being delivered in early 2024.”
