Saica Group inaugurates new plant in Barcelona

Saica Group has officially inaugurated its new Saica Pack plant in Barcelona, marking the completion of one of its most significant projects in Spain in recent years.

Three years after the foundation stone was laid, the new plant is now fully operational as a production facility equipped with the latest digital technology and a production capacity of 200 million sqm. The facility represents an investment of more than €100m and brings together the operations previously carried out by Saica Pack Barcelona and Saica Pack El Prat, strengthening the Group’s service capabilities in Spain’s largest packaging market.

Located in the Can Margarit industrial estate in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, within the Barcelona metropolitan area, the plant incorporates state-of-the-art flexo and offset printing technology and is designed to support customers’ growth with more innovative, efficient and sustainable packaging solutions.

The inauguration ceremony brought together institutional representatives, customers, partners and Saica Group executives. Among the authorities attending was Roser Brosed, Mayor of Sant Esteve Sesrovires. During the event, guests had the opportunity to tour the facilities and see first-hand the capabilities of a plant that aims to become a benchmark in Spain and across Europe in terms of both size and technology.

Roser Brosed, Mayor of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, said, “It is a source of pride for Sant Esteve to welcome a company like Saica. Its investment confirms that we are a reliable, well-connected and competitive municipality, capable of attracting high-value industrial projects. The new plant also reinforces our commitment to sustainability, innovation and modern industry, in line with the European Union’s circular economy objectives.”

Susana Alejandro, President and CEO, Saica Group, said, “This investment reflects the direction in which we want to continue moving as a company: getting closer to our customers, driving innovation and continuously improving our efficiency. With this project, we are strengthening our presence in a strategic region such as Barcelona and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable development and the Group’s long-term growth.”

Sustainability has been one of the key pillars of the project. Paper residues generated during production will be recycled at Saica Paper mills and transformed into new paper, while the water used in production processes will be treated on site. In addition, concentrating operations at a single location will improve logistics efficiency and reduce road transport movements.

With this investment, Saica Group reaffirms its commitment to Catalonia and strengthens its long-term presence in one of the company’s most strategic markets.
