ePac adds water-based inkjet flexible packaging printing with landmark Fujifilm partnership

ePac Flexible Packaging and Fujifilm have entered into a global strategic alliance, which will see the international manufacturer of digital flexible packaging solutions install Jet Press FP790 inkjet presses at locations around the world.

Founded in 2016 in the US and now operating out of facilities globally, ePac Flexible Packaging is renowned for its use of digital printing technology to produce flexible packaging. This was initially offered to cater to the growing demand for shorter runs and to support start-ups and disruptors, but the ePac business model has evolved as digital printing technologies have developed to cater to larger orders and industrial-scale production volumes.

To further support this evolution, ePac is now to install Fujifilm Jet Press FP790 presses in its facilities around the world, with the first to be installed in Phoenix, Arizona.

Parag Patel, President, Shared Services, ePac Flexible Packaging, said: “ePac was founded on the belief that digital printing would redefine the global flexible packaging market.

“By continuing to integrate leading-edge assets into our fleet, we are significantly increasing our capacity and capability to handle larger run lengths efficiently.”

The Fujifilm Jet Press FP790 is a single-pass, water-based digital inkjet press designed for mainstream flexible packaging production. The press prints at 50m/min (164ft/min) with a 1200 x 1200dpi resolution across substrate widths of 520-790mm using five CMYK and dual white ink channels.

Fujifilm stated that the Jet Press FP790 platform will enable ePac to ‘set a new benchmark for high-volume digital printing, speed, and cross-market scalability’ across its global network.

Osamu Nakashima, Corporate Vice President, Fujifilm Business Innovation Corporation, said: “We’ve put huge emphasis on digital packaging in the latest developments to our portfolio and our flagship J Press FP790 is engineered specifically to transform flexible packaging manufacturing.

“ePac’s forward-thinking model makes them the ideal global strategic partner to demonstrate its power.”

ePac Flexible Packaging is no stranger to landmark, global investments. It has previously confirmed similar deals with its incumbent digital press supplier as well as software partners, in order to strengthen its capability and market presence.

Patel continued: “ePac has always been focused on helping brands grow through professional packaging, and as they scale, their needs evolve. Incorporating this technology gives brand owners of all sizes the continued agility of digital while providing a true end-to-end scaling solution for flexible packaging.”
