Woodberry Packaging acquires Medica Packaging and F.G. Curtis

Woodberry Packaging has confirmed the acquisition of Medica Packaging and F.G. Curtis, in a deal that will almost double the size of the group. Both businesses will continue to operate under their existing brands and management teams, with employees remaining in place and customer and supplier relationships maintained.

The acquisition expands Woodberry Packaging’s presence across Europe and broadens its capabilities in pharmaceutical, healthcare and personal care packaging. The enlarged group employs around 650 people across the UK and Ireland and has annual turnover of more than €120m. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The enlarged group will offer customers a single accredited packaging partner with expanded manufacturing capacity and enhanced security of supply for regulated markets.

“The acquisition of Medica and Curtis is a major step in building our group across Europe,” said Peter Santo, Chief Executive, Woodberry Packaging Group. “This is part of a clear, long-term strategy of bringing high-quality businesses together and integrating them well to create a stronger organisation. Medica is the UK’s largest independent pharmaceutical carton converter, and Curtis is one of the best-known names in cosmetics packaging. We want to learn from both teams, invest in their businesses and create opportunities that would not be possible individually. We are delighted to welcome both teams to the group.”

“Joining Woodberry Packaging is an exciting step for Medica,” said Gerard Harford, Managing Director, Medica Packaging. “We have built our business on the quality, compliance and security of supply that pharmaceutical customers depend on, and becoming part of a larger group gives us greater scale and investment to support them. Our customers will continue to work with the same team and to the same standards, now with the backing of a wider group.”

“Becoming part of Woodberry Packaging is a natural step for Curtis,” said James Williams, Managing Director, F.G. Curtis. “We have established a strong reputation in cosmetics and personal care packaging and are recognised for our sustainability credentials. Joining the wider Woodberry group gives us additional scale and investment while maintaining the service and standards our customers value.”
