Wilkins Group Chooses Omega

The Wilkins Group has chosen an Omega folder gluer for its production plant near Bucharest. The Omega Allpro 110 machine, which is manufactured by Duran Machinery, is the first of its type to be installed within the Group. According to Aron Wilkins, Group Operations Director, “We chose the Omega for its combination of performance, specification and price – it is a perfect fit for our plant in Romania and has really complemented our production capacity there.”

The Romanian facility has Komori and MAN-Roland printing presses, offering six-colours and coating in-line. A combination of Bobst, Kohmann and Duran make up the downstream converting plant. Typical run lengths at the modern plant are 25,000 sheets and its 80 employees currently produce around 60 million cartons per year. Opened in 2004, the plant serves mostly the textile and food industries of Romania and south east Europe – but has plenty of room for expansion.

Speaking for Wilkins (Romania), Managing Director, Necip Saral, commented, “When we began to research manufacturers for a new folder gluer, we found that Duran Machinery offered the best package for our requirements. The machine was tailor-made for us and is very well built and reliable, with responsive after-sales support and an overnight spare parts service. It has a far greater capacity than the machine it replaced and has allowed us to redeploy staff to other work.”

Technical specification of the Omega Allpro at Wilkins includes side register and single finger servo back fold function. It is capable of producing straightline, double wall, crash lock and 4- and 6-corner work at speeds up to 400m/min. Available in seven sizes from 55 to 165, the Omega Allpro is a highly adaptable machine capable of the most complex styles with minimal make-ready and maximum productivity.
