Welcoming business leaders of the future

The UK SPA 101st Conference held at The Belfry on Monday 27th January 2020 was opened by Tim Gray, Chairman, as he addressed 109 delegates and welcomed 20 first-time attendees who were encouraged to attend as ‘business leaders of the future’.  He thanked those who earlier in the day had contributed to a well attended inaugural SPA Health & Safety Forum, which will now be a three times per year event for the Association going forwards.

Guest speaker Georgina Lawton gave an insightful view on how ‘Millennials’ and ‘GenZs’ use social media to gain employment. Her presentation received top marks from delegate feedback surveys and her key message  was that even if you don’t get involved with social media yourself, you should be aware of how social networking will impact your recruitment in 2020.

SPA Supplier spotlights from FujiFilm UK and Avanti Conveyors were well received and SPA member and TICCIT Ambassador, Steve Gabell of RH FibreBoard, recounted his experiences so far of delivering the TICCIT Programme (Trees Into Cartons Cartons Into trees).

Updates from three of the SPA Best Practice Initiative retained specialists followed, including: Contract Law, Employment Law and Health & Safety Audits. SPA Best Practice Initiatives are an exclusive member benefit, providing access to 11 industry initiatives for free or for a very small fee.

Questions around ‘How to Grow Your Business by Acquisition’ were handled expertly by a Panel made up of SH Fiske, Moorgate Capital, Roxburgh Milkins and River Evolution.

Delegates also received a personal invitation from Mike D’Angelo, President of the AICC, to attend SuperCorrExpo in Orlando, Florida from 13-17 September.

The conference was rounded off with a cocktail making masterclass and the next morning the SPA Golf Tournament. Feedback from Conference has been excellent, confirmed the SPA.

The UK SPA 102nd Conference and Health & Safety Forum will take place in Tewkesbury on Monday 8th June.
