VPK Group commits to climate action through SBTi

VPK Group has taken an important step towards environmental stewardship by officially committing to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard. This decision demonstrates VPK’s proactive investment in innovative solutions for a low-carbon economy, reinforcing our commitment to environmental sustainability.

The essence of this commitment goes beyond merely reducing internal greenhouse gas emissions. VPK Group is dedicated to actively investing in innovative solutions that facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy. In pursuit of this commitment, VPK Group, with all its divisions, has undertaken key initiatives:

  • Establishing near-term science-based emission reduction targets aligned with SBTi criteria and recommendations;
  • Setting net-zero targets, including a comprehensive long-term science-based objective to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain by 2050, limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Achieving these ambitions requires a robust CO2 reduction plan encompassing all three scopes, involving strategic investments in renewable energy and decarbonisation projects. Across all VPK sites, the company is gradually switching to renewable energy sources such as biomass, cogeneration, photovoltaic installations, biogas and efficient use of recovered heat from production processes. Additionally, infrastructure and machinery optimisation initiatives are being pursued to minimise energy consumption.

VPK Group has formally submitted its targets to SBTi for validation, scheduled to commence in March 2024, with an estimated validation process of three months. This commitment to the SBTi Net-Zero Standard positions VPK Group positively in sustainable business practices and environmental stewardship.
