Voith upgrade for PM1 at Matías Gomá Tomás in Spain

Voith Paper has received an order to modernise PM1 at Matías Gomá Tomás in La Riba, Spain.

On PM 1, Matías Gomá Tomás produces 100% recycled containerboard on a wire width of 5,150 mm. The aim of the rebuild is to improve paper quality and increase production capacity from the current 100,000 tons to 110,000 tons per year. Start-up after the rebuild is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.

“We are convinced we have found a very reliable partner in Voith, who is supporting us in the rebuild of PM1 with customised solutions to achieve our production targets,” says Enric Fuster Ventosa, General Director, Matías Gomá Tomás. “By modernising our plant, we will not only be able to improve the quality of our products but also increase our production capacity to 100,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to an increase of 10%.”

The scope of supply includes an approach flow upgrade, MasterJet4Tec headbox with EdgeMaster, DuoShake DG250 and the upgrade of the existing cleaning and screening with new InduraClean cleaner stage, an IntegraGuard screen and a ComMix static mixer. The MasterJet 4Tec marks the latest, fourth generation of Voith’s MasterJet headbox and offers significant advantages in four key areas: formation, pulsation damping, operating convenience and energy efficiency. The new industrial design of the MasterJet 4Tec also improves the cleanliness of the system and thus its runability. The DuoShake DG features real-time data monitoring, trend analysis and cloud connectivity.

“We have put together a customised rebuild package for Matías Gomá Tomás’ PM1 that improves the efficiency of the process and the quality of the end product at various points in the process, while also reducing maintenance requirements,” explains Philip Schnellinger, Process Technologist, Voith Paper. “Our service teams will also provide support after the rebuild to further improve the performance and quality of the PM1.”
