Varel to idle BM and reduce output

It has been reported that German paper and board company, PKV (Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel), will implement a temporary stop of board production at the end of August.

According to reports, the action is being taken due to high input costs, disruption in international logistics and weakening demand.

It is believed that this temporary stop of cartonboard production will reduce output by 10-15%. “Through this measure, we contribute to the EU’s expected energy saving of 15% and help to improve gas supply in the winter,” the company said.

PKV did not provide any information on the duration of the downtime, but it is assumed that containerboard production will not be effected.
