Valmet has recently responded to the specific needs of Shandong Sun Paper’s PM20 production line. These needs included increasing the variety of paper produced and improving energy efficiency.
To address these requirements, Valmet implemented an innovative optimisation retrofit on the original ten-roll supercalender. The core of this retrofit was upgrading the original single full-pressure zone mode to an advanced system with four flexible loading modes: full-pressure zone mode, single-pressure zone mode, double-pressure zone mode, and triple-pressure zone mode.
This upgrade has enhanced the supercalender with a broader paper production capability. It allows for precise control of paper gloss, smoothness, and bulk. This is achieved by selecting the most suitable pressure zone loading mode for different paper types. Particularly when operating in segmented pressure zone mode, the low-speed operation strategy of the intermediate rolls. Not only does it significantly reduce energy consumption but also effectively extends the service life of the rolls, thereby reducing maintenance costs.
“This retrofit of the supercalender has not only broadened our paper production range, providing significant advantage for new product development, but also achieved significant results in energy saving, emission reduction, extending equipment life, and reducing the cost per ton of paper,” said Wang Haixuan, Equipment Manager, Shandong Sun Paper Co., Ltd.
