Tornesch Expansion project for Panther Group

New state-of-the-art production halls and converting lines are being built at Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik located in Tornesch (near Hamburg), Germany. Once the project is completed, Panther’s production of folded and glued corrugated boxes will be taken to a new level.

The combination of decades of experience with high innovative strength is a tradition at the Panther Group. The experts develop individual packaging solutions and contribute their know-how to an extensive portfolio. These included solutions for a wide range of products, folding boxes, die-cut packaging, multi-point glued automatic packaging, gift packaging, shelf-ready packaging and packaging for hazardous goods.

Preparatory work for the new building project has been underway in Tornesch since the beginning of 2023 and in just nine months of construction, completely new halls were built, including the safety-relevant periphery in the outdoor area. In September of that year, the first new Bahmüller TURBOX specialty gluer was delivered and after the system was successfully installed, a palletising robot from MuK was added. The machine line, designed for maximum performance, has been in operation since October and is available for numerous customer orders.

The overall project is currently entering a further phase: in order to familiarise employees with the new systems and processes, training is underway. Expansion of production will create additional new jobs.

A labelling system will expand the machine park by the end of this year. The installation of a fully automated logistics system, including a state-of-the-art, fully automated semi-finished goods warehouse, is already being prepared for the coming year, with the aim of finally installing the second folder  gluer in the summer of 2024. With the commissioning of this additional line, the production capacity for the different automatic packaging at the Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik will double. The work, which has so far gone smoothly and completely on schedule, will be completed in August.

With the high-performance systems and increased automation, the Panther plant creates the basis for even further improved competitiveness and can reduce production costs. For the numerous customers, this means maintaining the usual delivery reliability, adherence to delivery dates and the high quality of the packaging.
