Success for Maschinenmau in France

Situated in Aquitaine, south western France, Mauco-Cartex is a packaging supplier to the Bordeaux wine industry. Founded in 1967 by Maurice Mauco to produce corks, this company operates from four sites where wooden presentation boxes, printed tape, corrugated boxes, as well as more specialised packaging are manufactured.

While the traditional industry of Bordeaux wine has remained fairly constant, the demand for Cognac has grown significantly over the last years especially with substantial new markets fuelling demand from the Far East. Further investment in flexo printing, with new multiple colour machines offering a wide choice of pantone colours have been installed, now producing 13 million printed corrugated cases and other specialised packs per annum.

To glue these boxes, while improving flexibility for shorter runs, Mauco-Cartex needed to buy a suitable folder gluer, which could also combine minimal space utilisation with high output. The final choice was the Multi Gluer from Maschinenmau in Germany, which despite a 2.1m width, only takes up 5.0m x 2.5m of space. The Multi Gluer uses cold PVA adhesive to close RSCs as well as crash-lock cases with up to 3 points of adhesive, which gives a usual output of over 2,000 boxes per hour.

The Multi Gluer is designed to be easy to use, with simple quick-change parts for differing size and box styles, and an easily understood on-board Beckhoff PLC to control the Baumer hhs adhesive system.

After the machine has glued and folded each blank, the operator places the closed boxes, already collated into lots, into a compression chamber which runs under the machine, providing finished boxes ready for bundling or strapping.

This Multi Gluer joins several others operating in France, after another successful year of sales, and despite COVID-19, the machine was delivered and installed towards the end of last year.

Pierre Rebeyrole, General Manager of Mauco Cartex, said, “We were pleased to see that the Multi Gluer also offers a double-sided tape dispenser, which can be fitted to the machine to close boxes for the fast-growing e-commerce industry. It is planned that this new feature will enable us to explore and develop this new market and further expand our business into the future.”
