Stora Enso confirms closure of Finnish corrugated packaging plant

Stora Enso has confirmed the permanent closure of its corrugated packaging production facility in Tiukka, Kristiinankaupunki, Finland, as part of plans to consolidate its Finnish corrugated packaging operations at its Lahti plant.

The decision follows employee consultations launched in September 2026 and will affect approximately 50 employees at the Kristiinankaupunki facility. Production will be transferred to Lahti in stages, beginning in November 2026, with the process expected to be completed by the end of September 2027.

Stora Enso said the consolidation is intended to improve production efficiency, profitability and long-term competitiveness. The company cited challenging conditions in the Finnish corrugated packaging market over recent years, relatively high fixed costs at Kristiinankaupunki and the need for significant investment in the site’s production equipment.

Although manufacturing operations will cease, the company’s sales and customer service functions will remain in Kristiinankaupunki, while warehousing activities will also continue in western Finland.

Stora Enso has confirmed that the restructuring will not result in redundancies within its sales and customer service organisation. The company will provide support to employees affected by the closure, including employment coaching and cooperation with local employment services.

The decision was also confirmed in Stora Enso’s third-quarter financial report, published on 30 October 2026, in which the company outlined its continuing efforts to streamline operations and improve competitiveness across its business.
