STI Group has climate targets validated by SBTi

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has confirmed the STI Group‘s short, medium, and long-term climate targets. It is currently one of the only German packaging companies with over 500 employees pursuing the goal of net-zero emissions.

The group joined the SBTi in 2023, committing to aligning its climate protection strategy with scientifically recognised standards. These measures include investments in energy efficiency, the use of renewable energies, and the development of recycling-friendly packaging solutions.

According to STI CEO Jakob Rinninger, sustainability is part of the company’s strategy. Climate protection is being implemented transparently – also with a view to customer requirements.

The company is currently investing around €1.2m in a 1.85 MWp photovoltaic system at its Kecskemét site in Hungary. The production unit there is one of the larger folding carton manufacturers in Eastern Europe. Starting in August 2025, a significant portion of its energy needs will be covered by the solar power generated. Solar systems were already installed at the German sites in Alsfeld and Lauterbach in previous years.
