It is reported that Sonoco Products Company is closing its packaging plant, RTS Packaging, in Scarborough, Maine, in coming months. The plant employs about 67 people, and manufactures corrugated partitions, folding cartons, sheeted paperboard and die cut paperboard components.
“The closure is due to inflation and slumping sales in the folding carton market and that Sonoco is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the plant, its employees and other affected parties,” said Roger Schrum, Company Spokeperson. “Sonoco has operations throughout the East Coast and our employees are eligible to seek employment at other company operations where openings may exist.”
