Smurfit Kappa Diss adds more capacity

Smurfit Kappa Diss is a fully integrated and forward-thinking manufacturer of a wide range of corrugated packaging solutions exclusively for the trade sector. Recently they were unveiled new warehouse and machinery upgrades to increase site capacity and capabilities at their state-of-the-art Norfolk-based factory earlier this year.

This £4.5m investment programme has allowed them to expand their site capabilities by upgrading the corrugator, installing a new Macarbox casemaker and increasing warehouse space.

With its versatile functionality, the 1300 x 2800mm Macarbox casemaker can produce boxes that are stitched, taped and/or glued and printed in up to three colours in one pass.

“These innovative new developments complement our overall offering enabling us to provide the widest choice of options to our trade customers who operate in a diverse range of market sectors,” comments Leigh Gracie, General Manager, Smurfit Kappa Diss. “The new Macarbox offers us increased flexibility in production and significant new capacity across our portfolio, especially in large/ XXL cases. Its in-line die-cut capability enables our skilled team to manufacture complex case designs and is well suited to the growing demands for work using case erecting equipment.”

Smurfit Kappa Diss says it is proud to be an exclusive and confidential supplier to trade customers, offering a wide range of corrugated packaging, collaborative design services and nationwide service with specific expertise in large/XXL boxes, die-cut products, and heavy-duty, including sheet board. The recent upgrades represent pivotal growth and development for Smurfit Kappa Diss, as their trade customers have seen corrugated capacity being limited during periods of peak demand, particularly over the past two years.

With the new machine already in full operation, this extra capacity forms part of the Smurfit Kappa Diss team’s plan to be a leading corrugated packaging partner to the trade (both sheet plants and packaging distributors). “We’re absolutely thrilled to offer our customers these superb new features and look forward to exploring the rich and rewarding future of packaging together in the future,” says Steve Lambert, Sales Director.
