Smurfit Kappa acquires Asterias in Poland

Smurfit Kappa Polska has completed the acquisition of Asterias, one of the largest printing companies in southern Poland.

Asterias offers a comprehensive portfolio of innovative packaging solutions, including graphic design, prototype preparation, printing, laminating and cutting of the final product. The plant is equipped with a modern machine park that specialises in the production of premium packaging using advanced print embellishment technologies, from water-based varnishing, through hot foil, cold embossing, to UV varnishing. Its team of experts provides a wide range of services in the field of offset printing and the production of corrugated and cartonboard packaging.

“A team of over 100 professionals has joined our Smurfit Kappa family. This acquisition will open up new opportunities for us on the market, make the product offer of Smurfit Kappa Polska more attractive and bring many synergies on the operational and purchasing side. In the coming months, we will focus on the efficient and effective process of integrating companies and unifying processes in all areas of activity,” said Jacek Niewęgłowski, CEO – North East Europe, Smurfit Kappa.

“This is another important step as part of Smurfit Kappa’s strategic commitment in Poland. We have previously completed an investment of €40m in the expansion of our corrugated packaging factory in Pruszków, which has become one of the most technologically advanced plants of this type in Europe. Asterias is an excellent complementing our portfolio of packaging solutions. Specialised equipment will allow us to continue achieving our strategic goal – we want to be the supplier of choice for our customers, providing them with the most innovative and sustainable packaging solutions,” said Edwin Goffard, COO – Corrugated Europe, Smurfit Kappa.
