Shredding Investment

Perrys Recycling was founded in 1962 specialising in recycling and off site shredding with one depot in Baltonsborough, Somerset, processing around 175 tonnes per week. The family business has grown organically in line with customer needs for legal and environmental compliance. They now operate four shredding and baling depots in the South West – Yeovil (Marston Magna HQ), Bridgwater, Bristol and Bideford. They currently have a fleet of over 30 vehicles servicing customers throughout South West processing over 1200 tonnes per week for shredding, recycling and recovery with zero waste to landfill solutions.

Chris Perry (Managing Director) explains, “We have expanded our offsite and onsite shredding services in line with customer demands, legal compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Health and Social Care Act and Human Rights Act. The increase in commercial fraud and growth in industrial cyber-crime also influences the way businesses manage information governance. This has become a priority with customers who want a choice of either onsite and offsite services approved to BSEN15713 and high security CPNi information destruction standards.

“We have operated three mobile onsite shredding lorries to BSEN15713 (level 3 standards), servicing customers in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and South Gloucester. We are also a shareholder member of The Shredding Alliance Limited, providing a national service for customers with multiple sites and a central point of contact, invoicing and regular management information, giving customers the choice of regional or national service contracts.

“In order to keep up with the demands of large volume clearances and regular scheduled collections, we have invested in a fourth mobile shredding lorry. The new Shred-Tech MDX2 mobile shredding vehicle has a high throughput of 3 tonnes per hour, with the ability to switch into high-security mode (BSEN15713 level 6/7, DIN P4) when required by customers needing to demonstrate legal compliance to these new regulations.”

Global Recycling UK, who are agents for Shred Tech, are one of the market leaders in mobile double shredding technology and after much research Perry’s felt that the MDX2 vehicle provided the best throughput in standard mode with the flexibility to switch to high-security on the same round.
