Some of the largest uncoated recycled paperboard producers in North America, including Sonoco, Greif and Cascades — have confirmed they are implementing a $60 per ton price increase, which will come into effect in July. These will be the second price increases this year, following the first increase in March.
Sonoco will increase prices on those and all converted paperboard products by 7% by the end of the first week in July. Taylor Lane, Vice President and General Manager, Industrial Paper Packaging, North America, Sonoco Products, said, “This necessary increase is driven by several factors, including robust demand across our markets and strong utilization in our paper mill network. Additionally, elevated inflationary pressures have significantly increased our operating costs. We remain committed to delivering reliable supply and high-quality products, and this increase helps ensure we can continue to support our customers’ business effectively.”
Greif said it is implementing an increase of at least 6.5% on all tube and core and protective packaging products by mid-July. The company said in a statement, “The URB price increase is in response to increasing input and transportation costs along with strengthening demand for all URB products. The tube and core and protective packaging products price increase is a consequence of the URB and adhesive price increases, the primary raw materials contained in those products, increasing transportation costs, and strengthening demand across end markets Greif serves.”
