UK-based Qualvis is set to take delivery of two BOBST NOVACUT 106 E die-cutters as part of a drive to increase efficiency and enhance carton quality even further. The new machines are due to be installed in February and April 2022.
The family-run business, based at a 74,000 sq ft site in Thurmaston, Leicester, partners primarily with premium, artisan brands serving the food and beverage market. The investment forms part of a strategy to upgrade the company’s older machines and streamline production as it seeks to maintain its cutting edge in delivering high-quality, intricate, premium packaging.
Marcus Short, Joint Managing Director, said, “We have been looking to invest in new machinery for a number of years. We had recognised that upgrading some of our ageing machinery was crucial to ensuring that we could continue to support our customers. We pride ourselves on designing our business around the market green shoots, creating high-quality, stand-out packaging. Naturally, our work tends to be small to medium size runs with more complex, intricate detail, so this investment is not focused on volume or throughput but being able to do our job better than before and doing it more efficiently.”

The Novacut 106 E is a high-speed automatic flatbed die-cutter which can die-cut paper, carton and corrugated materials. The advanced HMI SPHERE enables a simple set-up process and the CENTERLINE® system allows quick and easy settings for job repetitions and changeovers. Its high level of automation delivers more uptime, increased accuracy and reduced workload for operators.
Qualvis, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in business next year, already has a Bobst ALPINA folder-gluer on site. Short added, “With Bobst, we know we are buying a solid, well-built machine, engineered with true craftmanship. We are aiming to reduce the number of machines on site and streamline production, but we can only do that if we have reliable, high-performing new machinery.”
Despite Covid-19 restrictions being in place, Bobst was able to provide a remote demonstration to the Qualvis team from Switzerland and ran a series of jobs as part of trials.
