Paperboard wine bottles from Frugalpac

Aldi is launching the UK’s first supermarket own-brand paper wine bottles. Using Frugalpac’s Frugal Bottles, which are made from 94% recycled paperboard with a food-grade pouch to contain the wine, the new bottles are fully recyclable and five times lighter than a standard glass bottle. They will be in stores from 18th March – Global Recycling Day.

“Shoppers are striving to become more sustainable in their everyday lives, looking for small ways to make a big difference for our planet,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying, Aldi UK.

Aldi has worked with Frugalpac on the supermarket-first initiative. The Ipswich based company is on a mission reduce the impact of carbon on the planet through engineering sustainable packaging, using recycled paper, that is both light in weight and easy to recycle again.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Aldi on this landmark new line. Our ambition has always been to allow more people the opportunity to enjoy our paper Frugal Bottles, giving them greener choices,” said Malcolm Waugh, CEO, Frugalpac.
