Paper downtime in Germany, yet prices set to increase for some

Leipa has confirmed it is making plans to increase prices for containerboard by €60 per tonne from early September, citing a significant increase in production costs. The company has not ruled out further increases in the final quarter of the year, due to the increasing cost of energy and some recovered fibre grades it utilises. The company has also said it wants to idle two of its paper machines for the short term – a couple of weeks during July and August – due to lower demand.

Elsewhere in Germany, Hamburger Containerboard is reported to have said it wants to reduce production by around 20,000 tonnes imminently, as energy prices continue to increase and Klingele is said to be taking some downtime this month too (due to staffing shortages).
