Opal has completed the sale of its paper bag manufacturing business to Thomastown Bag Solutions Pty Ltd, trading as Bag Solutions Partners, an affiliate of US-based investment firm The Magan Group.
The transaction was completed on 1 October 2026, with the business continuing to operate from its existing site in Thomastown, Victoria, Australia, under the Bag Solutions Partners name. The sale forms part of Opal’s strategy to concentrate on its core integrated recycling, paper and packaging operations.
“This decision was made following careful consideration and supports Opal’s continued focus on its core integrated recycling, paper and packaging products and services,” said Simon Nozu, Chief Supply Chain and Procurement Officer, Opal.
The acquisition also includes Opal’s New Zealand Bags business, which will operate through a structured transition period over the coming weeks. Opal and Bag Solutions Partners are working with customers and suppliers during the transition, with no interruptions to production currently anticipated.
