Oji Group plans new paper machine

Oji Holding Corp has confirmed it plans to start up a new paper machine at its subsidiary, GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd in Malaysia. The new machine, which will come on line in early 2021, will produce about 450,000 tonnes per year of fluting and liner. The project is expected to cost around JPY 35 billion (approx €258 million) and will include the paper machine, mill infrastructure as well as energy supply and water treatment plant.

In a statement, the company said that although it is operating more than 20 sites in the region, it has been reliant on external suppliers of paper. This move will allow them to integrate the business unit and offer enhanced supply of high quality paper for corrugating purposes.
