It is with regret that we inform of the passing of Patrick Shorten on 21st December. He was 90 years old.
Shorten’s career in paper and packaging started in sales with Bowaters back in 1955, spanning almost 24 years, before working with both Read & Smith (now DS Smith) and then Stora Billerud, before opening the UK office for paper agents, Continental Cellulose. In total, he spent 45 years in the paper industry.
Related to the papermaking and packaging industry, Shorten was clothed in the livery of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers in 1985 and was Master in 2005. He was also President of the Stationers Social Society in 1996 and for some years was Chairman of the Fleet Street Club. Apart from these activities he also served with numerous trade organisation’s associated with the paper and board industry.
