Obituary – Melvyn Mabbutt

It is with sadness that we confirm the passing of Melvyn Mabbutt, a distinguished figure in the UK corrugated industry, on 30th March 2025.

Melvyn Mabbutt with his wife, Karen.

Melvyn’s career spanned over 45 years, during which he made significant contributions to the industry and touched the lives of many.

His corrugated packaging journey began in 1970, working for Rigid Containers in Desborough, making samples. In 1972, he joined Hardun-Bux as a Sales Representative and worked his way up, becoming Managing Director of both the Diss and Kettering sites in 1997. Throughout the many acquisitions, Melvyn continued to run the Diss site and became its longest serving Managing Director of 20 years.

Throughout his career, Melvyn developed a proven track record of growth, and with his deep understanding of the UK market, he took on additional responsibilities, including Purchasing and Group Sales Director. His innovative approach and leadership were instrumental in turning around loss-making operations and developing new sales areas, significantly contributing to the success of the companies he worked for.

After retiring, Melvyn also continued to serve the industry, acting as a consultant for many companies and attending industry events. Retirement wasn’t all work, and with his wife Karen, he went on several holidays, including many to Fuengirola in Spain and big family holidays to Florida.

Melvyn is survived by his loving family, including his wife Karen, his children Katherine and Robert, and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on 25th April in Kettering to celebrate his life. For funeral details, please email Robert Mabbutt on [email protected]
