Obituary – Fred Harrison, founder of Hycorr

We are sad to confirm the passing of Fred Harrison, founder of Hycorr Machines and early innovator in the corrugated industry. He passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2023, at his home in Sarasota, FL.

Fred’s relentless thirst for innovation was a founding principle for Hycorr Machines and has contributed to the current success of Kolbus America Inc. He and his wife, Nan, were inducted into the AICC Hall of Fame in 2007, for their work and contributions to the corrugated industry.

Here’s a list of a few of Fred’s noteworthy innovations:

  • First U.S Manufacturer to introduce the Reverse Angle Doctor Blade on rotary die-cutters (1985)
  • First world manufacturer to invent & introduce Automatic Cutting-Anvil Speed Compensator (1985)
  • First U.S. rotary die-cutter manufacturer to implement “Fully-Sealed” Dual Chambered Doctor Blade Systems (1991)
  • First U.S. manufacturer to invent & implement Quick-Change Anilox Roll System (1991)
  • First U.S. manufacturer to  introduce Vacuum Transport (1993)
  • First U.S. manufacturer to introduce Modular Dwell Section with Inter-station Dryers (1997)
  • First U.S. manufacturer to introduce a High-Board-Line, set-up while run, Flexo-Folder-Gluer (2001)

Our thoughts and prayers are with Nan and the Harrison family. Although Fred will be greatly missed, his legacy lives on.
