Norske Skog confirms NOK 850m investment in Saugbrugs PM6 rebuild

Norske Skog has confirmed plans to invest up to NOK 850m (approximately €73m) to rebuild paper machine 6 (PM6) at its Saugbrugs mill in Halden, Norway, enabling the production of both TMP-based kraftliner and supercalendered (SC) magazine paper.

The investment will provide the mill with greater production flexibility, allowing it to serve both the publication paper and fibre-based packaging markets while improving its overall cost position.

“The rebuild of PM6 represents an important step in securing a competitive and sustainable industrial future for Saugbrugs,” said Geir Drangsland, CEO, Norske Skog. “The project combines our strong position and long-standing competence in publication paper with an attractive opportunity within fibre-based packaging.”

The project forms part of Norske Skog’s longer-term strategy to expand its presence in fibre-based packaging, while maintaining industrial operations at the Saugbrugs site.

According to the company, the rebuilt machine will provide flexibility to adapt production to future market developments, supporting its continued diversification into packaging paper.
