Kohler Coating has confirmed that it has installed new equipment on a Fosber Quantum corrugator, built for what the European market is moving toward next.
“As plastic and wax replacements accelerate across Europe, this system was designed around paper-based, food-grade barrier coatings that demand control,” said Mike Kohler. “Process stability, moisture control, and coating accuracy—the fundamentals required to replace plastic and wax with functional paper solutions at scale.”

The configuration:
- WaterDeck on the medium liner to stabilise moisture before bonding;
- HY90 Rod Coater (WaterDeck / Rod Coater) on the liner for precise, repeatable barrier application;
- Dual AirBars on the coater section to deliver increased coating speeds.
What this enables:
- Consistent bonding on coated and uncoated structures;
- Reduced starch usage despite barrier coatings;
- Lower post-warp and flatter finished board;
- Flexibility to run barrier, functionals, and colour coatings;
- Consist paper moisture content on all part grades;
- Faster speeds across all paper grades.
