MM Packaging has developed EcoBox, a recyclable fibre-based packaging solution for powder detergents, designed to reduce the use of difficult-to-recycle components while maintaining functionality and convenience. The pack is made from 95.4% fibre-based materials and has been developed in response to changing consumer expectations and European packaging regulations.
EcoBox replaces the conventional plastic handle, metal rivets and separate plastic dosing cup found in many detergent packs. Its integrated fibre-based handle can carry loads of up to 7kg, while a pre-cut section in the front of the carton can be detached and formed into a dosing spoon. The design also incorporates a hinged opening and reclose function to support ease of use.
According to Pro Carton’s 2026 European Consumer Packaging Perceptions Survey, 64% of more than 5,000 consumers surveyed identified ease of recycling as their most important packaging requirement, while 84% said they preferred cartonboard and cardboard packaging to plastic. MM Packaging said EcoBox’s 95.4% fibre content also positions the format for evolving European packaging requirements, including the increasing focus on recyclability and material efficiency.

The solution can be produced on existing packaging lines with minimal upfront investment, providing detergent brands with a scalable route towards higher fibre-content packaging.
