After recent investment in an EFI Nozomi digital printer and digital cutting machines, Mal McGowan, Owner of McGowan Print, saw the demand for environmentally friendly, plastic free/void fill conscious packaging to protect their goods in transit to the end customer.
McGowan comments, “For 25 years, we have been the ‘go-to’ digital printing company for companies in Ireland. We now operate on over 25 digital presses, working on a vast amount of substrates, manufacturing quantities from 1 to thousands of pieces. The Kolbus-Autobox enables us to turn a specialised printed job from design to print, conversion, assembly and packaged in a record time. We’ve effectively taken out another link in the supply chain.”
He continues, “The Autobox forms a strategic part of our business plan that goes hand in hand with customers’ demands for shorter run, bespoke, quicker turn-around, personalised, printed products. The thing we liked most about the Autobox was its ability to set within 60 secs from one job to the next. We ran a batch of 700, 0411 style boxes within an hour and had the printed product out that afternoon. We now have the exact sized box, reducing our packaging costs considerably. We are aiming to eliminate the shipping of air as well as reducing our costs/usage on plastic, protective packaging.
“Before the Autobox, we were taking up capacity on our CAD table and semi-automatic die-cutter, which really wasn’t ideal. Since installation, we have reduced our corrugated box stock significantly, in the process freeing up much space for holding more raw materials.”
Arran Sethi, UK Sales Manager, adds, “McGowan have such a diverse portfolio of printed products varying in size, shape and quantity. Having the exact sized box or being prepared for an on-demand or rush job was near impossible. They can now manufacture what they want, when they need it, ensuring the valuable product is distributed instantly, with no delay. The Kolbus Autobox machines are truly world class and backed by excellent aftersales support; everything that a leading company like McGowan Print comes to expect from their equipment supplier.”
