Klingele reaches important milestone

Klingele has confirmed The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially recognised the company’s submitted emissions targets for its four German corrugated board plants. This strengthens Klingele’s own climate strategy and simultaneously supports its customers in achieving their sustainability goals.

SBTi has recognised Klingele’s short- and long-term emissions reduction targets based on the 2021 reference year – including an absolute reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 63% and Scope 3 emissions by 37.5% by 2035, and climate neutrality across all scopes by 2045. Klingele has been continuously investing in energy-efficient technologies and innovative production processes for over two decades.

Klingele’s carbon footprint is based on recognised standards such as the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. “We manage natural resources responsibly and continuously invest in state-of-the-art technologies to reduce our CO₂ emissions – thereby supporting our customers in achieving their Scope 3 targets and their own sustainability agenda,” explains Alexandre McKay, Sustainability Manager, Klingele Group. “The validation by the SBTi is an important signal that we are on the right track: fact-based, transparent, and with genuine ambition.”

Since 2011, Klingele has invested more than €480m in state-of-the-art production facilities, efficient energy use, and sustainable product solutions. In addition to technological advancements, Klingele also focuses on international growth markets, where the company pursues a sustainable investment approach with long-term local environmental benefits.

“At a time when many companies are postponing or weakening their climate targets, we are staying the course. We are convinced that a responsible, science-based sustainability strategy is not at odds with economic growth – on the contrary: it is the key to it,” said Dr. Jan Klingele, Managing Partner, Klingele Group.
