Jamil Packaging reports efficiency improvements of up to 50% with BOBST equipment

US corrugated converter Jamil Packaging has reported efficiency improvements of up to 50% in certain operations following continued investment in BOBST printing and converting equipment.

The family-owned company, which operates facilities in Indiana and Tennessee, has developed its machinery portfolio to support shorter production runs, increasing SKU requirements and growing customer expectations for turnaround times and print quality.

At its Indiana operation, Jamil Packaging uses a range of Bobst equipment, including a two colour DRO GT, FFG 924 and FFG 1232 flexo folder-gluers, a VISIONCUT flatbed die-cutter and an EXPERTDRO with inside/outside printing capabilities. Its converting equipment also includes two EXPERTFOLD 165 folder-gluers and two 300 models.

According to the company, the use of common machinery platforms has improved production consistency, reduced setup times and increased available capacity, allowing it to undertake more complex jobs and meet tighter delivery schedules.

“What stood out about Bobst was their approach to the conversation,” said Dave Diroll, President, Jamil Packaging. “There was a clear commitment to supporting independent companies like ours. The people we interacted with were knowledgeable and focused on our long-term success, which gave us confidence that this would be a partnership, not just a purchase.”

Diroll said the equipment investments have also helped the company reduce production backlogs and expand the range of work it can undertake.

“We have also been able to reduce backlog and increase available capacity,” he added. “That has enabled us to take on more work and support our growth.”

The company has also reported improvements in day-to-day operations, with greater equipment reliability helping to reduce unplanned interruptions and improve production predictability.

“The machines perform the same way, day after day,” said Bill Cessna, Operations Manager, Jamil Packaging. “Setup times are reduced and the process has become much more predictable. It has also reduced stress on the team because there are fewer surprises.”

Jamil Packaging said the consistent equipment interfaces have also helped simplify operator training, allowing new employees to become familiar with production processes more quickly.
