Italy hits 87.3% recycling rates

The 2021 Unirima Report (National Union of Recovery and Recycling Companies) on circular economy highlighted that in 2020 in Italy, 87.3% of waste from the paper and cardboard industry was recycled.

“The target set by the European Union was to reach an 85% recycling rate of paper and cardboard by 2035, and Italy has hit this 15 years early,” said Susanne Haas, Program Director, 4evergreen – the cross-industry alliance. “We at 4evergreen are working to make this positive path a reality all over Europe and increase the recycling rate of fibre-based packaging to reach a 90% recycling rate in Europe by 2030.”
