Intertronics and Erichsen agreement gives packaging and print manufacturers UK access to testing instruments

Erichsen GmbH, manufacturer of precision materials testing equipment, has strengthened its UK sales presence and local customer support by selecting adhesives, dispensing, and surface testing supplier Intertronics as a new distribution partner for surface testing instruments used in packaging and print quality control. The range supports objective assessment of colour, gloss, coating coverage, and adhesion, helping manufacturers control the appearance and durability of packaging across production.

For packaging producers, consistent colour and surface finish are important for brand presentation, while poor ink or coating adhesion can lead to peeling, flaking or smudging during shipping, storage and retail handling. Erichsen instruments available through Intertronics support recognised methods for colour, gloss, visual comparison and adhesion testing.

“Intertronics specialises in adhesive bonding and coating technology, dispensing, curing, surface preparation, and surface testing,” said Ludger Wahlers, Managing Director, Erichsen. “Our customers in the UK will benefit from a combination of high-quality testing technology, expert advice, and a strong understanding of industrial manufacturing processes.”

“Erichsen’s globally recognised materials measurement and surface testing technology significantly strengthens the capabilities we can offer customers across the UK and Ireland,” said Ben Swanson, Joint Managing Director, Intertronics. “Through our partnership with Erichsen, we see a real opportunity to build on our complementary strengths and develop a substantial business together.”

Intertronics’ range of services extends from selecting suitable testing equipment, industrial adhesives and protective materials, and developing reliable processes through to providing support during ongoing production.

The ColorRanger 580-CG spectrophotometer captures colour and gloss data in one device and supports DIN 5033 and DIN EN ISO 2813. The Matchmaster 425 MC II/LED light booth enables visual colour comparison under defined lighting conditions and supports DIN 53 218, DIN 6173, ISO 3668, ASTM D 1729 and BS 3900:D1.

For adhesion testing, the handheld Cross Hatch Cutter Model 295 can be used to assess how well inks, varnishes and protective coatings adhere to a packaging substrate. It supports EN ISO 2409, JIS K 5600-5-6, VDA 621-411 and EN 13523-6. Model 451 Hiding Power Test Charts can also be used to assess covering capacity and the relationship between hiding power and coating thickness on papers or films.
