International Paper releases the 2019 Global Citizenship Report

International Paper published their 2019 recap of the Global Citizenship Project, addressing their efforts to “tackle the world’s most pressing environmental challenges and increased investor focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.”

The report included a letter from Chairman and CEO, Mark Sutton, saying “I believe that International Paper has a responsibility to generate long-term value while protecting the planet and improving people’s lives.”

IP touts safety, ethics and stewardship as the core values of company, with the “vision to be among the most successful, sustainable and responsible companies in the world.”

“Our Vision 2020 goals conclude in December of this year, and we are on track to meet or exceed nearly all of them. This made 2019 a pivotal year for us, as we finalized our next generation of goals and focused our attention on outlining a sustainable path to 2030. It was important to us that our goals were focused, ambitious and moved the needle on both environmental and social challenges. We aimed for goals that establish us as an industry leader in sustainability and push us to drive significant progress in the circular economy,” said Sutton.

The report outlines three goals that they expect to achieve or exceed by December 2020, including: sustaining forests, investing in people and improving the planet. Recycling, water stewardship, safety, and community engagement are a few of the key initiatives IP addressed in their report.
