It has been reported that Hamburger Containerboard is set to close PM3 and cut more than 50 jobs at its Pitten mill in Austria, in an attempt to solidify the mills position.
“We deeply regret having to part with a portion of our workforce – it is a painful but necessary decision to safeguard the future of the site,” said Gerald Prinzhorn, CEO, Prinzhorn Group.
With a width of 2.5m, PM3 is no longer economically viable for the packaging paper market, says the company; the machine was producing around 135,000 tonnes per year of fluting. PM4, which produces up to 315,000 tonnes per year of fluting, liner and plasterboard, will remain operational – it is a 5.0m wide machine.
