Fenton Packaging Solutions has highlighted the potential benefits of bag-in-box pergals as an alternative to traditional rigid plastic containers for fresh milk distribution in cafés and foodservice operations.

Pergals combine a flexible inner bag with an outer box, potentially reducing packaging material consumption per litre of milk while improving storage and transport efficiency. The flexible bag collapses during dispensing, potentially leaving less residual milk than rigid containers. The closed dispensing system also limits exposure to air and the surrounding environment, which may help reduce spoilage.Using larger bag-in-box formats can reduce the number of individual containers required, improve pallet utilisation and reduce the space needed for storage and packaging disposal.
“Ultimately, the case for pergals is about more than replacing one container with another. It is about creating a more efficient milk supply and dispensing system, while reducing the packaging and logistical burden of supplying high volumes of fresh milk.” explained Chris Warren, Managing Partner, Fenton Packaging Solutions.
