DS Smith to invest €120m in three German sites, but close Berlin factory

It has been widely reported that DS Smith is planning on expanding three of its plants in Germany, with an investment in the region of €120m.

The funds are being allocated for upgrading of the three sites, with the aim of increasing capacity throughout the German market:

  • Nördlingen will get around €75m of the project, to include a new corrugator and high-rack storage system;
  • Arenshausen will receive approximately €35m for site upgrades and new converting equipment;
  • Arnstadt will benefit from almost €10m, specifically for converting equipment.

The company has said it will be closing the factory in Berlin, saying that it is no longer economically viable to keep it open.
