DS Smith Tecnicarton corrugated solution replaces Expanded Polypropylene (EPP)

DS Smith Tecnicarton (Iberia), an International Paper company, is providing the automotive sector with an alternative to traditional Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) packaging solutions with DS Smith Tecnicarton Corrugated Cardboard Trays: Safe and Sustainable Packaging for Automotive Headlights.

The trays are comprised of 100% corrugated board and the packaging product innovation is intended as an optional replacement for Expanded Polypropylene (EPP). Its innovative design incorporates a double fingerprint die cut to allow for delicate and heavy automotive headlights to be positioned safely, and securely immobilized on both the top and bottom of the packaging construct. This feature provides optimal support and protects products within against scratches and damage during transportation or storage.

The double-footprint design also enables the units to be stacked easily to facilitate the optimum amount of storage space. In addition, the trays with their lateral design feature can be flexibly integrated into any size of larger packaging to allow for the positioning of a maximum number of product pieces where necessary. The packaging solution is also intended to replace returnable plastic packaging in situations of emergency or return flow failure in the automotive industry. These scenarios can range from vehicle malfunctions, software glitches and component failures, to manufacturing and supply chain disruptions caused by unforeseen global events or natural disasters.

Antonio Cebrián, Commercial Director, DS Smith Tecnicartion, said, “Our Tecnicarton Corrugated Cardboard Trays can be manufactured quickly and with the same requirements and protection conditions as their traditional plastic counterpart. We offer our customers a flexible and economic packaging solution with a low tooling cost and the product is available for use in transportation and logistics operations worldwide for customers in the automotive sector. We are committed to helping our customers in reaching their sustainability and circular economy targets.”
