DS Smith closes Louth site

The BBC has reported that is closing its doors at its sheet feeder site in Louth and making 70 roles redundant.

DS Smith has begun a phased closure of its sheet-feeding operation and the majority of staff have now left the site. A skeleton crew would remain at the site until it closes in August.

A spokesperson said there was “no viable alternative” to keeping the site open. In a statement to the BBC, DS Smith said, “A period of collective consultation has been undertaken with the Trade Union and employee representatives at our sheetfeeding site in Louth. Unfortunately, there has been no viable alternative business proposals presented during this process, and we have therefore taken the difficult decision to proceed with the proposal to close the site. We will now focus our efforts on supporting all those employees impacted by this decision.”

Production has subsequently been moved to the sheetfeeding site in Blunham.
