Bridgeshire install Kolbus Autobox MultiNova

UK-based Bridgeshire Packaging Ltd were looking to streamline their production of quick turnaround high value, short to medium run, corrugated packaging. Research into likely machine solutions led them to visit the Kolbus Autobox factory in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire.

The converter has now taken delivery of a Kolbus MultiNova MN400 multi-point gluer. It has a pressurised electric PVA gluing system with a compression section and the option to integrate a batch counter. The belt-driven feed is fully automatic and returns underneath the machine, producing an economical footprint, with adjustable feeder gates and lifting fingers for three-point (crashlock) work, which are easily accessible.

Robert Booth, Managing Director, Bridgeshire Packaging, said, “The Multinova is the latest addition in a series of investments. We now have three HP digital printers, three super large format CAD digital cutting tables, three Bickers Gluers, fully automated pallet tracking/banding, and automated conveyor systems to streamline co-packing. All this combined with our existing machinery promotes Bridgeshire into one of the leaders in POS manufacturing and fulfilment companies in the country.”

He continues, “Installing the Kolbus Autobox MultiNova MN400 has more than doubled our production speeds. We are now setting a straightline job in around 10 mins and achieving a run speed of close to 2,000 boxes per hour. We are confident we can get the set times even quicker than this. A great thing about the MultiNova is that we can just keep topping up the hopper. There is no stop-start which creates unnecessary gaps in production.”

He concludes, “We have run several high-value single and three-point crashlock boxes; some very large, others very small. The machine is easily adapted from one job to another and soon gets up to 1,500 boxes per hour which is more than enough. In the past we were spending days getting larger volumes of work through our existing gluer, the MultiNova gets it done within a few hours. There are times when jobs are needed instantly so the speed of turn-around is invaluable.”
