Brand Enhancement From Fresnels Inc

Brand enhancement specialist Fresnels Incorporated presented its latest nanotechnology imagery for use on packaging at Luxepack Monaco, 1-3 October 2018. Following the successful launch of its optically variable ‘Peacock™’ and Digital Sculpturing Cellini™ foils, Fresnels Inc teamed up with luxury packaging manufacturer Glory Innovations (Taiwan) and stamping die specialist Carlo Gasperini (Italy) to produce a highly innovative and recyclable folding carton aimed at the wine and spirits market.

Fresnels Inc was the first to offer circular fresnel lenses in hot and cold stamping foil to complement the more traditional approach using costly laminates. Comments COO Dr Glenn Wood, ‘We see mechanically produced fresnel lens effects as fascinating additions to packaging but the real prize is digitally produced images offering graphic designers much greater scope for creativity. We have also been successful in manufacturing these images as hot stamping foils suitable for high speed application to paper substrates.”

With Headquarters in Connecticut, USA, Fresnels Incorporated Limited has a corporate mission to provide brand owners with high visibility packaging with dynamic effects which is eco-friendly, highly secure and yet highly cost effective. Two trends in modern packaging cannot be ignored. These are the need for eco friendly packaging that can be recycled and the other is the use of manufacturing processes with minimum energy demands and environmental impact. Fully metalised laminates embossed with deep structure Fresnel effects are available but incompatible with these requirements and so Fresnels Inc has developed alternatives using hot stamping foils.

The ROSE box illustrated uses FSC certified paper from Iggesund. It was then printed with a floral design to which the clear optically variable Peacock foil was applied by heated blind embossing to ensure perfect register between the raised leaves and petals and the green to gold colour transformation imparted by the foil. The same foil was used directly on the white paper to create the letters ROSE. Textured dies were used to create an engraved effect to the lettering and also add security to the box. All dies were supplied by Carlo Gasperini. Finally, a digitally created crest using proprietary Cellini™ technology was applied using silver metalised stamping foil.

Said company President, John Jones, “Cellini has the appearance of molded metal. It engages the eye and the touch by its raised appearance which renders the embossing of paper or carton unnecessary. The advanced nature of our digital origination technology allows covert markers and data to be incorporated into the packaging surfaces. These include Levels 2 and 3 covert security detectable only through the use of hand held devices or forensic examination. Cellini and Peacock effects can also be supplied in label format to co-ordinate with the cartons.
