The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has confirmed the launch of its new BIR Academy ‘More Knowledge Together’ educational video series, a flagship initiative designed to share industry knowledge, deepen understanding of complex market and policy issues, and support the next generation of recycling professionals worldwide.
BIR has produced a general introduction video presenting the scope and ambition of the video series. This introductory film outlines how the Academy videos are structured, who they are designed for, and how they aim to complement BIR’s long-standing role as the global platform for knowledge-sharing, advocacy and business development in recycling.
Developed since the inception of the BIR Academy in 2024, the educational video series reflects BIR’s commitment to continuously strengthening its services to members through high-quality, accessible and practical learning tools. The Academy videos bring together leading experts from across the global recycling value chain to explain key concepts, market mechanisms and regulatory developments in a clear, real-world context.
As part of this launch, BIR will shortly publish the first Academy video dedicated to the London Metal Exchange (LME) in mid-February. The LME video demystifies a subject that is central to global recycled metals markets, offering practical explanations and expert insights for recyclers operating in increasingly complex and volatile market conditions. LME experts Christian Mildner (Head of Corporate Client Development), James Macdonald (Head of Trading Operations) and Yang Liu (Head of China Client Development), share their knowledge and insights through a series of interviews with the BIR Academy’s own Murat Bayram.
The BIR Academy video series will progressively cover a wide range of topics relevant to the recycling industry, including market structures, regulatory frameworks, trade mechanisms, sustainability challenges and emerging trends. Filmed with experts in real-world settings and decision-making environments, the videos are intended to make complex topics more approachable while maintaining technical accuracy and depth.
Through the BIR Academy, BIR continues to invest in tools that help its members navigate change, build expertise and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Further Academy videos will be released on a rolling basis.
