Barnstaple, UK-based Atlas Packaging have recently installed Signode’s speciality bundler — the SigCORR — to work behind their new Bobst Expertfold 230 A2 folder gluer. The recent investments are part of a larger investment strategy, which centred on the installation of a Cuir high quality flexo post print machine a few years ago, as the company continues to enter high value markets. To complete the print and gluing line, Atlas were looking for an innovative bundle strapping solution with the versatility and handling capacity for a multitude of different box types that would be coming from the new Bobst folder gluer.
Based on his experience of working with Signode at other corrugated production facilities, Vince McDermott, Manufacturing Director at Atlas, says, “The quality and reliability of Signode’s equipment, combined with their first-class support and back-up, made turning to Signode for a solution a natural decision.”
He adds, “An important factor for Atlas was to have a proven and reliable high-speed solution to avoid packaging operations causing production bottlenecks.”
The SigCORR’s versatility and high levels of performance, together with Signode’s plastic strapping consumables, make it an attractive proposition for delivering significant improvements over traditional bundling operations. McDermott adds, “The design of the machine is good and is specific to bundling multi-point glued cases. The key benefits we have experienced so far are faster packaging operations, improved and consistent bundle presentation and no indentation or marks on the boxes.”
Ian Gailey, Signode’s UK Project Manager, says that throughout the project the co-operation with Atlas could not have been better. He explains, “By combining our considerable expertise in the corrugated industry with our service and support, we have been able to work closely with Atlas to supply a long-term and innovative solution. This has resulted in a real partnership success.”
McDermott concludes, “There are only a few brands that I would be confident in recommending and Signode is one of them.”
