ArtSystems has joined the British print association BPIF to promote good recycling practice within the wide format print community and to support resellers and end-users in understanding and embracing the new BPIF Display & POS 2 Recycling Scheme.
The move towards true full product life cycle environmental impact assessments is gathering apace with governments looking to implement EPR strategies across many sectors, pushing the costs of safe disposal of waste onto manufacturers. Consequently, compliant and effective recycling programmes are becoming ever more important to businesses across the globe. In the UK, the BPIF has long been an advocate of good practice supporting members with accurate information on both legal and ethical compliance for waste reduction and recycling. The new scheme is a further extension of the BPIF’s recycling initiatives and addresses waste management specifically within the Visual Display & POS sectors.
On the introduction of the BPIF Display & POS 2 Recycling Scheme, Tom Goddard, Media Product Manager at ArtSystems, explains, “ArtSystems has a position within the sign and display market as a specialist wide format distributor supplying some of the largest hardware and consumables resellers in the sector. This allows us to act as an educator on the BPIF programme to help our resellers offer compliant advice on media recycling.”
Managed by Prismm Environmental – which has already had transformational success in waste management with its Zero Labels 2 Landfill, Zero Foil 2 Landfill, and Packaging 2 Recycling programmes – the new BPIF Display & POS 2 Recycling Scheme sets clear visible targets to enable the ongoing management and improvement of waste recycling.
The BPIF Display & POS 2 Recycling Scheme steps include:
- the preparation of an initial report upon acceptance into the programme that outlines media usage and waste output;
- an annual review detailing the changes achieved – beneficial or otherwise;
- monthly reporting of recycling, recovery and landfill volumes recorded by Prismm Environmental.
This information will feed into an annual report for each member site which will be delivered to the BPIF Visual Display and POS Steering Group, enabling ongoing sector analysis.
