Another U.S. Mill for Pratt

On the heels of a containerboard mill startup in Valparaiso, Indiana in 2016, Pratt Industries is planning another recycled containerboard mill to be built in Wapakoneta, Ohio. It will have a capacity of about 360,000 metric tons per year of corrugated medium and linerboard. Construction is expected to begin in March 2018 and startup is planned for the fourth quarter of 2019, according to several news reports. Valmet will supply the paper machine.

This is the third new U.S. containerboard supply announcement this year. Packaging Corporation of America is converting a mill in Wallula, Washington, and International Paper is converting a mill in Riverdale, South Carolina. Collectively, the machines will add about 3 percent of new supply to the U.S. market between 2018 and 2020, according to Debbie Jones, a research analyst for Deutsche Bank.
