Akarton BV has expanded its production facility in Venlo, the Netherlands, with two AOPACK box making machines: a BM3000-HD and a BM1800-Mini. Both machines have been installed and put into production, strengthening the company’s capacity for short-run, customised and on-demand corrugated packaging.
Akarton develops and manufactures corrugated packaging for customers in sectors including industry, logistics, food, medical products and e-commerce. In its announcement of the investment, the company highlighted faster lead times, greater production flexibility, consistent processing quality and the ability to produce right-sized packaging with less material waste.
The BM3000-HD supplied to Akarton is equipped with two vibrating knife cutting units and creasing tools installed beside the vibrating knives. This configuration enables the machine to cut and crease irregular paths, including diagonal lines, angles and curves, according to digital box designs.
The machine also includes two flexographic printing units, a cold-glue spraying system and QR code scanning. Feeding, slotting, slitting, creasing, cutting, printing and gluing functions are integrated into one production platform.
Akarton’s compact BM1800-Mini is also equipped with two vibrating knives, cold-glue application and QR code scanning, providing an additional platform for frequently changing customised orders.
A notable aspect of the project was the speed of the initial installation. Without first contacting AOPACK for installation assistance, Akarton’s technical team independently completed the installation of both machines and brought them into production within a short time. This rapid start-up impressed AOPACK and demonstrated both the technical experience of Akarton’s team and the highly integrated, user-friendly design of the machines.
A customised automatic feeding and box collecting system has also been ordered for the BM3000-HD and is currently in transit. Once it arrives in Venlo, AOPACK’s after-sales team will complete the on-site installation and commissioning.
