The American Forest & Paper Association released the June 2019 Containerboard Monthly report on 17th July. Containerboard production in June 2019 decreased 6.6% compared to June 2018 and was down 4.9% year-to-date. The average daily production compared to May 2019 was 0.6% higher.
The containerboard operating rate decreased from 91.8% in May to 89.1%. The total linerboard rate dropped below 90% for the fourth time this year, down to 86.3%. The June total operating rate was 7.1 points lower than the same month last year and the year-to-date operating rate was down 6.2 points compared to last year. Production for export, most of which is linerboard, was down 11.5% month-over-month and was down 18.6% year-to-date.
