Packon Basim adds high definition flexo print

Founded in 1996, Packon Basim Printing & Packaging Inc was originally known as Patrol Offset (or in Turkish, Patrol Ambalaj). Starting its manufacturing life in an 80 sqm workshop based in Istanbul, within three years, Packon Packaging began to print catalogues and to work in continuous form production.

Then in 1999, Packon expanded its production volume with new machinery investments and it began to produce offset printed folding carton packaging. In the next years, with its 13,000 sqm, well invested production plant in Pendik, Istanbul, the company has also rolled out a dedicated design centre that employs expert and high-skilled staff. As a result, Packon Basim works in accordance with the national and international standards within legal regulations and it offers services and products not only in Turkey but also abroad, thanks to a well-deserved reputation for its high and continuously increasing quality and competitiveness, according to customer demands and needs.

The company, which has become a leading player in Turkey, now produces all kinds of packaging made of paper, cardboard and corrugated board, for many sectors such as food, medical, automotive, electronics, household appliances, construction, stationery, cosmetics, chain merchandising.

Packon Packaging always gives priority to being an innovative company and it offers professional services to its customers. Their environmental-friendly production continues its journey with main goal of leaving a clean and livable world to the future generations, and it develops solutions to prevent waste in continuous production.

Adding firepower

At the end of 2022, Packon Basim chose to widen its own machine park with a high performance Koenig & Bauer Celmacch Chroma CUT High Tech rotary die-cutter, with six bottom printing units and a vacuum stripping stacker.

ChromaCUT High Tech is Koenig & Bauer Celmacch’s top of the range model, with features that make it appealing to many box plants around Europe. Chroma CUT HT reaches a maximum speed of 10,000 sheets per hour, ensuring maximum printing quality and high productivity.

Since Packon has a background in the offset printing, the need was to invest in a rotary die-cutter for ultra-high definition flexo printing. For the customer, having a machine that could be fast in job changes and that could ensure a high degree of automation were the key factors.

In order to satisfy the customer’s requests, the machine was equipped with four automatic anilox changeover systems, which are able to hold up to three anilox cylinders per printing unit; one automatic register control system that aims to speed up the register process during the start-up, and six Koenig & Bauer Celmacch IR and hot air drying systems, which guarantee high printing results also on coated paper and a fast drying process due to the combination of infra-red lamps and hot air. The inking system is equipped with carbon chambered doctor blade systems developed by Koenig & Bauer Celmacch.

“We are extremely satisfied with the partnership with Packon Basim,” states Luca Celotti, General Manager, Koenig & Bauer Celmacch. “We are convinced that we have found the right partner to develop an excellent technical and commercial relationship and we are committed to developing our business activities even further in the Turkish market.”
